Matthew Diamond

Matthew Diamond, MD, PhD is a sports medicine physician and scientist with expertise in connected devices that promote wellness. Dr. Diamond is the Medical Director at Misfit, a member of Fossil Group, where he develops physical activity and sleep monitoring technology and builds collaborations with academic and industry partners. He serves on the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine, the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries.

Dr. Diamond serves on the Board of Directors of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Health and Fitness Technology Division and on its Board of Industry Leaders. He is a founding chair of the CTA Health and Fitness Technology Standards Committee, which develops national standards and recommended practices for consumer health and fitness technology. Dr. Diamond is the chair of the Continuing Medical Education Committee of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, a founding member of the Sleep Technology Council of the National Sleep Foundation, and a member of the Industry Advisory Board of the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Dr. Diamond has published papers in sports medicine and digital health, including on the health benefits of physical activity, physician attitudes toward digital health, and mindfulness and technology.

Dr. Diamond received his MD and PhD degrees from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital and a residency in rehabilitation medicine at NYU. He served as chief resident caring for patients with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, nerve disorders, and developmental disorders, at Bellevue Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospitals of Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Rusk Institute, and the Hospital for Joint Diseases. Dr. Diamond served as a Fellow in Spine and Sports Medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where he trained in advanced regenerative therapies. He studied integrative medicine at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and he is certified in medical acupuncture.

As a sports medicine physician, Dr. Diamond cares for professional and recreational athletes and performers, including actors, dancers, and musicians. He has served as a team physician for numerous NCAA sports teams and provided athletic coverage for sporting events and programs including the New York City Marathon, the World Police and Fire Games, the International Tennis Federation, and the San Francisco School of the Arts.

Dr. Diamond is a diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and he is board certified in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine. An award-winning physician-scientist and teacher, Dr. Diamond is passionate about helping people improve their mobility and performance through innovative, integrative medical treatments and technology that promotes wellness. Dr. Diamond practices sports medicine in San Francisco, and he enjoys dance, yoga, and mindfulness-based practices.
